ASYLUM UPDATE

Check out the following links to hear about the recent cases of gay Jamaicans being granted asylum in the United Kingdom because it would endanger their lives to return home.

J-FLAG has been assisting with many such asylum cases in the UK, US and Canada. We feel that these cases are important for all sexual minorities in Jamaica because the more asylum cases that are granted, the greater the pressure from foreign governments will be for Jamaica to improve its human rights record in regard to sexual minorities. You can do your part to support this effort. If you know of any cases of discrimination or violence directed toward sexual minorities here, email us at testimonies@jflag.org for assistance in getting your story recorded. You can also log on to Black Gay UK's website and sign their petition of support for changes in Jamaica, http://www.blackgayuk.com/gay-rights/petition.htm . Finally, please consider a generous donation to help J-FLAG continue its work in this and many other areas of support to the lesbian, gay and all-sexual community in Jamaica. Just click on the "Donate" page above to learn how!

Please check out the Black Gay UK website at www.blackgayuk.com. This UK site is dedicated to "Boys and Girls of Colour and Their Friends." They have been great supporters of our work and legal initiatives. They are currently sponsoring an internet petition to encourage the Jamaican Parliament to protect sexual minorities with an amendment to the Constitution. Please sign the petition today and join hundreds of other human rights promoters from around the world who want to make Jamaica a better place for all of us!

While you're surfing the web, paddle on over to the sites below and see what's happening at the international level to promote equality for sexual minorities.

The International Lesbian and Gay Association is a world-wide federation of national and local groups dedicated to achieving equal rights for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people everywhere.

IGLHRC's mission is to protect and advance the human rights of all people and communities subject to discrimination or abuse on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status.
